Geography aside, both commodities move through the same kind of chain — from underground reservoir to the burner tip or fuel tank. Here's the shape of each system.
Crude oil — wellhead to fuel
Natural gas — wellhead to burner
The key difference: crude is a liquid that is refined into many products, so the value step is the refinery. Gas is mostly used as-is, so its critical steps are processing (stripping out liquids & impurities) and, for overseas markets, liquefaction at an LNG terminal.
